Recorded 1967-05-22 — 1967-06-15 · Van Gelder Studio
August 11, 2026 — August 14, 2026
Wave was recorded in 1967 and released by A&M through Creed Taylor’s CTI imprint, with Antônio Carlos Jobim on piano, guitar and harpsichord, arrangements and conducting by Claus Ogerman, Ron Carter on bass, and a larger ensemble of flutes, trombones, French horn, strings and percussion. Rudy Van Gelder engineered the sessions, with Creed Taylor producing. The album includes some of Jobim’s best-known compositions, among them Wave, Triste and Lamento, framed by Ogerman’s orchestral writing rather than the smaller bossa nova settings associated with much of Jobim’s earlier work. It became one of the records that helped establish the sound and visual identity of CTI in its early years.
